Education Officer – Leeds

At the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds we’re looking for a dynamic museum educator to play a key role in our Education Team. In this post you will develop and deliver unique, world-class formal learning programmes and resources for schools with a dedicated team of Education Assistants and volunteers.

The Royal Armouries cares for one of the world’s oldest museum collections, presented at our headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, at our historic home in the Tower of London, and at Fort Nelson near Portsmouth. The successful candidate will help bring our national, iconic collection to life in a programme that combines academic rigour with creative flair, in-the-moment flexibility with an eye always on the goal, and serious-mindedness with a sense of fun.

If you are an exciting, versatile communicator with a passion for museum education and recent experience of delivering and supervising programmes for a range of formal learning audiences in a heritage context; and if you are up for a challenge, we would like to hear from you.

This position is a permanent contract, working full time, 36 hours per week, 5 days out of 7. Weekend, Bank Holiday and evening working will occasionally be required.

Education Assistant – Realities of War Project – Leeds

  • Salary: Daily rate £71.25 (£9.50 per hour)

The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom’s national museum of arms and armour and one of the most important collections of its type in the world, housed at its headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, its historic home at the Tower of London, and the Victorian Fort Nelson in Hampshire.

This position is a casual contract, working part-time. Typically, there are 4 days each month. Weekend, Bank Holiday and evening working may occasionally be required, as will some travel.

We’re looking for a keen, dynamic communicator to join our Education Team in Leeds and to deliver our ongoing Realities of War programme to Army recruits undergoing basic training.

In this post you will deliver handling workshops, gallery tours and taught sessions that use our national, iconic and unique collection of arms and armour to explore the themes of continuity, change and core values. You will also develop your own skills and experience in a team that combines academic rigour with creative flair, and serious-mindedness with a sense of fun.

The successful candidate will be a good communicator, will ideally have some experience of delivering programmes for learning audiences, and will be an enthusiastic learner too!

Marketing Insights Officer – Leeds

Royal Armouries, the National Museum of Arms and Armour, we’re on a mission to understand more about our audiences. We’re looking for a Marketing Insights Officer to help us make sense of data and harness its power to drive change.

You’ll be responsible for carrying out audience research and creating actionable insights that will be fundamental to our ambitious audience growth plans. This is an important role that will work with colleagues from across the organisation to champion audience needs.

The successful candidate will have a range of experience in data analysis, commissioning market research and designing evaluation, gained in the commercial or public sector.

This is a full-time, permanent position, working 36 hours per week, 5 days out of 7. The post-holder must be prepared to work on occasion at the weekend, on Bank Holidays and in the evenings. The role will be hybrid, working remotely and onsite based at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds.

Digital Manager – Leeds

Royal Armouries, the National Museum of Arms and Armour, is looking for an experience Digital Manager to join our Interpretation and Digital Engagement team.

This is an exciting time to be joining the museum as we embark on the development and implementation of our Digital Vision that will transform our use of digital at the Royal Armouries and take us into the future.

As Digital Manager you will play a key role in the development and delivery of online digital services and content. You will work closely with the Digital Programme Manager and contractors to deliver a new technical infrastructure and website for the Royal Armouries. Ideally you will have experience of managing digital projects.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and compliance of Royal Armouries websites and online platforms, and management of their associated Service Level Agreements.

Experience in all aspects of managing large, complex websites and Content Management Systems is essential, including domain name management, website security, data protection, accessibility, and analytics. Knowledge of HTML, CSS, PHP, and JS would be ideal but not essential.

You will have a creative, and innovative approach to digital content production and be a competent user of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat. Experience of video production would be advantageous.

You will manage a talented team of professionals and work collaboratively with others across the museum to develop digital content and services which place the needs of audiences at their heart.

This is a full-time, permanent position, working 36 hours per week, 5 days out of 7. Some week-end and evening working may be required.

The role will be hybrid, working remotely and onsite, based at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds.

Hospitality & Events Manager – Fort Nelson

The Royal Armouries are seeking an experienced Hospitality and Events Manager who will lead our commercial hire and events functions and be responsible for the growth of the business with a core focus around events management and delivery at Fort Nelson, which is a unique heritage site overlooking Portsmouth.

You will manage and deliver commercial events and venue hire with a strong focus on the customer experience, profitability and organisation processes across events and catering business. You will work with the Fort Nelson Operations Manager, the Head of Commercial Development, and marketing colleagues to deliver to a commercial strategy and income targets for these areas and to seek out and develop new business opportunities to grow both Café and Corporate/Private Hire business.

We are looking for someone who is a warm, friendly person with excellent professional people skills coupled with an excellent track record of managing events for private clients and corporate hire.

You will be passionate about creating and delivering great events and who relishes the challenge of leading their own team.

This is a full-time permanent post working 37.5 hours per week, 5 days out of 7, some week-end and evening working would be required.

Fort Nelson is situated to the north of Portsmouth on Portsdown Hill. Public transport is not available to the site and so applicants should take this into consideration before applying.

Catering Assistant – Fort Nelson

We currently have a full time position available to join the team at Fort Nelson as a catering assistant in the café. Fort Nelson, the Royal Armouries’ museum of Artillery is one of the last great fortresses ever built in Britain.

The catering business at the Royal Armouries, Fort Nelson has undergone consistent growth over the past few years and the café and venue hire are significant parts of the offer at the Fort.

This role will assist in delivering great visitor experience through catering operations on site as part of the team operating the Café area of the visitor centre and venue hire events.

Excellent communication skills, exceptional customer service and a positive and flexible attitude will be crucial. You will assist your colleagues in making sure visitors are able to enjoy their visit to the utmost whilst delivering commercial income across catering activities.

This is a full time role working on average 34.47 hours weekly (37.5/30 split) working 5 days out of 7, weekend and bank holiday work will be required.

Communications Officer – Leeds

We have an exciting opportunity for a Communications Officer to join our Marketing & Communications team.  Reporting to the Communications Manager the successful applicant will be essential in our ambitious plans to increase our engage with audiences across a range of communications channels.

We’re keen to hear from skilled communications professionals who want to join a fast-paced team with a track record of delivering millions of impressions every year. We’re on a mission to grow our visitors as well as increase our reach and reputation. This role is essential to help us inspire a wide range of people to find out about our collection of arms and armour and the stories of human endeavour connected with our objects.

The successful candidate will have a high level of copywriting skills, knowledge of developing audiences using organic social media, and ability to influence and work with a range of internal and external stakeholders. They must be able to analyse data and create digital content that delivers engagement, as well as experience of working in a communications team.

Working 36 hours per week, typically Mon – Friday with some weekend and evening working.  The role will be hybrid with a mix of home and office working from our Leeds museum.

Security Officer – Leeds

  • Salary: £20,976 per annum

Royal Armouries, the UK’s National Museum of Arms and Armour, is looking to recruit an experienced security professional to join our team in Leeds.

The Security Officer’s role is to ensure the safety and security of staff, visitors, and the museum collection.  This will be conducted through delivering a high level service.

Within this role you will undertake general security duties relating to people, buildings, grounds, and assets. Control room duties such as management of Security, CCTV, and fire alarm systems will be required along with the ability to follow procedures in relation to emergencies such as evacuations.

You will have an SIA certificate and licence in either door supervision or security guarding. Experience of using security control panels and radios is essential. Previous experience in a similar role where you have worked as part of a team within a public, heritage, or retail location is essential.

You will have good organisational skills and have the ability to pay attention to detail and being methodical in your approach. Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel are essential.

Within this role you will work day and night shifts of 48 hours, 4 on / 4 off on a rota basis. Evening, weekend and bank holiday work will be required.
